Chronic fatigue and the nervous system

Written by Dr Alexis Robic · Studio Inné, Marseille

“Your fatigue does not come from a lack of energy. It comes from everything your body keeps carrying in silence.”

Every week at Inné, we welcome people who no longer understand their own fatigue.

They have “tried everything”: lab tests, supplements, therapists, rest, routines. But something resists, as if their body kept pulling the brake despite their best intentions.

This is not simple overwork. What we observe is subtler, deeper, more systemic. It is a chronic fatigue of the nervous system, often mistaken for weakness when it is in fact an attempt at self-preservation. A kind of last message from the body to bring you back to yourself.

This kind of fatigue does not lie. It does not ask for more strength, but for more truth.

This text is a response. To you who are exhausted without understanding why. To you who are looking for a path back to wholeness. And to the nervous system, silent guardian of our vital energy, too often ignored in modern care.

1. Chronic fatigue: when rest is no longer enough

More and more people are living with exhaustion that will not go away, a chronic fatigue that is not resolved by sleep, by holidays or by dietary supplements.

It is a deep, silent, rooted fatigue that makes it feel as though the body is slowly switching off, with no visible explanation. And yet medical tests reveal nothing. People speak of chronic fatigue syndrome, functional fatigue, unexplained fatigue… but the answers are not convincing.

Because the problem is not so much a “biological defect” as an intelligent signal sent by a system we do not yet understand: the autonomic nervous system.

2. Chronic fatigue and the autonomic nervous system: a forgotten key

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates all the vital processes that work independently of our will: digestion, heart rate, breathing, temperature, immunity, the sleep–wake cycle…

It acts as an invisible conductor, between two poles:

  • The sympathetic system, which activates alertness, effort, action, survival.
  • The parasympathetic system, which promotes rest, digestion, integration, repair.

Yet in chronic fatigue, this system often stays stuck in “sympathetic” mode: it remains hypervigilant, as if the body still believed it had to defend itself.

⚠️ The consequence: the body no longer knows how to regenerate. It runs on empty, without deep rest. The mind races, the muscles tense, the organs slow down. You are exhausted without doing anything.

The researcher Stephen Porges, through polyvagal theory, showed the central role of the vagus nerve: this large cranial nerve connects the brain, heart, lungs, gut… When it is dysfunctional, fatigue, anxiety and digestive problems set in, one cascading into the next.

sympathetic alert parasympathetic rest the body stays on the left side — even at night
The autonomic nervous systemTwo poles, one conductor. In chronic fatigue, the switch no longer happens: the body stays on alert, even during sleep.

3. The Nigredo: an alchemical reading of fatigue

In alchemy, every transformation begins with a phase of chaos, of dissolution: this is the Nigredo, the “black work”.

It is a dark, slow, disorienting passage. It destroys old landmarks, breaks down false identities, slows everything down to the point of suspension. Nothing responds any more. Everything seems to freeze.

What if your chronic fatigue were this moment of silent transmutation, a symbolic death of what is false, an enforced pause to let what is essential emerge?

This fatigue is not destroying you. It is stripping away everything that keeps the soul from appearing.

It forces you to slow down, listen, feel, loosen. It is an initiatory passage, an inner call.

4. An energetic reading: when life no longer flows

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), chronic fatigue is often linked to a deficiency of Qi, a stagnation of the vital flow in the meridians.

The organs most often affected are:

  • The Spleen (rumination, mental and physical digestion)
  • The Kidney (energetic root, ancestral memory)
  • The Liver (suppressed anger, control, frustration)

In the energy healing sessions we offer, we often sense an energetic condensation around the plexus, a kind of vibrational freeze that prevents the movement of breath, consciousness and life force.

It is not that energy is lacking. It is that energy is blocked, crystallised, diverted.

In a session, we do not “give” energy. We reopen the circuits. We release the locks.

5. Emotional fatigue: what the mind has forgotten, the body has not digested

Many people with chronic fatigue say:

  • “I don’t know why I’m like this”
  • “Everything looks fine on the surface, but I feel as if my light has gone out”
  • “I’m too sensitive, everything affects me, I need silence”

This points to deep emotional fatigue, often linked to:

  • Emotions repressed since childhood
  • Unacknowledged minor traumas
  • Constant adjustment to other people’s expectations
  • A lack of any real personal space

The body becomes the receptacle for everything that has not been expressed. It compensates, absorbs, compresses.

Chronic fatigue then becomes a language of protection, a physiological barrier against emotional overload.

6. The other invisible roots of chronic fatigue

➤ A life out of alignment

Chronic fatigue = existential fatigue. When what you do every day no longer makes sense to your soul, your body protests. It does not show, but it wears you down.

➤ Energy leaks

False relationships, overly noisy places, social media, addictive cycles, scattered attention… All of this creates constant energy leaks.

➤ Transgenerational blocks

Patterns passed down unconsciously through family lines can create a terrain of structural exhaustion: having to carry everything, sacrificing yourself, not listening to yourself…

These causes cannot be seen in the blood. But they can be felt in the field. And they are treated energetically, through the nervous system, symbolically.

7. What can you do? Care is not only about action

In a world that values performance and speed, it is hard to believe that “doing nothing” could heal.

And yet… Healing begins in the space. In the vibrational quality of a session, in the resonance of another person, in the permission given to the system to regulate itself.

At Inné, we offer an energy healing and neuro-regulation session (remotely or in person), designed to:

  • Relax the circuits of the nervous system
  • Release deep-seated emotional charges
  • Restore energetic flow
  • Realign the vital centres

This session is personalised to your experience, your symptoms, your vibration. It comes with audio or written feedback, and sometimes simple follow-up after the session.

It is not a protocol. It is an energetic, cellular, symbolic encounter.

8. What if your fatigue were a sacred call?

You may have been told to sleep more, to “get moving”, to “pull yourself together”. But your body does not need discipline. It needs attention, safety, release.

Chronic fatigue may be:

  • An initiatory reminder of your lost axis
  • A hidden voice urging you to change
  • A door to a truer version of yourself

Your fatigue is not an ending. It is a passage. A crossing. A reopening.

9. How do you begin?

Three ways to get started:

  1. Book a discovery session remotely (45 to 60 min)👉 Book my session
  2. Receive a free audio recording: “Reconnecting your nervous system in 7 minutes”👉 Form to fill in
  3. Write to us directly: by WhatsApp on +33699200670 or on Instagram @inne.society if you would like to talk before committing.

Conclusion: a fatigue, a threshold, a transformation

What if you stopped judging yourself? What if you recognised that this fatigue is not a mistake, but a deep wisdom?

You have not “tried everything”. Above all, you have tried to stay strong.

Perhaps it is time to listen to what your body has been trying to whisper to you for a long time.

Because deep within the fatigue, there is a truth waiting. A rebirth.

What this changes in a session

This text describes what we observe at the studio. Every terrain is unique: a personalised reading always begins with a first consultation.
